M.I.A. shares new clip from upcoming documentary

With the release date for M.I.A.'s upcoming documentary MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A. fast approaching, the musician shared a new teaser clip on Tuesday, Pitchfork points out.

The minute-long video is narrated by M.I.A., as she speaks on the inspiration behind creating a particular song amid footage of the musician recording and dancing with people in numerous places.

"I went to practically every continent. We kept working on the same song in every country," M.I.A. says. "I started recording in Trinidad, to make it make sense to the Trinidadians, then it would change slightly, and then I would record some stuff in Jamaica. Then you'd have to adjust it again when you bring it to Brooklyn."

MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A. is directed by Directed by Stephen Loveridge, and scored by Paul Hicks and Dhani Harrison. It is set to release initially in the U.K., dropping on September 21 before opening in the States the following week on September 28. The documentary premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award.
