DonMonique, Slayter, And Danny Brown Premiere Gritty Crew Track “Tha Low”
The Stelios Phili-produced song was inspired by Wu-Tang’s “C.R.E.A.M.”
Nostalgia is a helluva drug, but DonMonique wields it wisely. Since first catching our ear with her tongue-in-cheek hustler's anthem, "Pilates," she's barrelled deep into the gritty, outer borough vibe of glory-era New York rap. On "Tha Low," the BK rapper enlists Slayter and Danny Brown to give a crew texture to the Wu-inspired track, produced by Stelios Phili. It bangs, and suddenly I'm ready to look up all my favorite ONYX records on Tidal.
“The beat was inspired by "C.R.E.A.M" by Wu Tang Clan. Usually all my music is made from scratch. Slayter, Stelios, and I just usually vibe off of each others energy when in the studio," she told The FADER over email. "Around that time, me and Danny had connected on social media and I thought the track would be perfect for him."
