Hear Amy Winehouse Discuss Depression In New Documentary Clip
Asif Kapandia’s Amy documentary opens in New York and L.A. on July 3.
The Asif Kapadia–directed Amy Winehouse documentary Amy isn't scheduled for wide release on July 10, but it’s already caused a stir. Critics gave it rave reviews, Winehouse’s father said it was "horrible," and the film has incited thinkpieces about the public’s role in the singer’s tragic downward spiral—and by extension, in other artists' troubles as well. A short new clip from Amy hit the web today. “I don’t think I knew what depression was,” Winehouse says. “I knew I felt funny sometimes, and I was different. I think it’s a musician thing, that’s why I write music. But I’m not like, some messed up person. There’s a lot of people that suffer depression that don’t have an outlet.”
