The D.O.C. Has Regained His Voice
26 years after a car accident crushed his vocal cords, the rapper/N.W.A co-writer is making music again.
Legendary West Coast rapper and N.W.A collaborator The D.O.C. has apparently regained his voice after a severe car accident in 1989 crushed his vocal cords.
The D.O.C. worked on N.W.A. and Eazy-E's debut albums, contributing lyrics and vocals to both as a ghostwriter for Ruthless Records. His own debut album, the Dr. Dre-produced No One Can Do It Better, was a critically acclaimed, painfully underheard moment in West Coast rap that didn't get its time in the sun due to the aforementioned accident, which occurred only five months after the album's release. Now, it seems that the D.O.C. might be gearing up for a comeback, and he's keeping an open mind.
And in the midst of speaking to his fans on Twitter, he was quick to shoutout some of the current rappers that he thinks are excellent lyricists.
It will likely be a long process, one that we won't be seeing the fruits of for a while, but that's no reason not to be excited about the resurrection of a legend.
