Amandla Stenberg Is Publishing A Comic For Girls Of Color
NIOBE: She Is Life hits shelves on November 4.
After she started dropping politically correct truth bombs all over Twitter, we knew that Amandla Stenberg was destined for greatness. With a mission to save the world, the 16-year-old actress and advocate is now releasing her own book, in partnership with multi-platform publishing company Stranger Comics, titled NIOBE: She Is Life.
The story follows protagonist Niobe Ayutami, a half elf and half human warrior, and her adventures of self-discovery as she becomes aware of her inner strength. Needless to say that the main character is loosely based on its co-creator, Stenberg. "I connect to her mixed racial background and quest to discover her innate powers and strengths, to learn who she truly is," Stenberg said in a statement obtained by the Huffington Post.
The book is breaking boundaries as a tribute to young girls of color, something that is rarely seen in the comic world and even the real world within mainstream culture. “[Niobe] is on a path to a destiny that will test her faith and her will, something we can all relate to. But there's never been a character quite like her -- one who shatters the traditional ideal of what a hero is. We need more badass girls!" Stenberg said.
NIOBE: She Is Life will be released on November 4.
