Heems Premieres Video For “Pop Song,” Shares “Coconut Oil (London)”
A new visual plus a new track.
"Pop Song (Games)" appeared earlier this year on Heems' Eat Pray Thug album. As the title suggests, it's a glossy track: Gordon Voidwell, who produced the tune, fills it with stabbing synths and bubbling bass, and Heems stacks two-syllable phases into a simple, enticingly-crooned hook: New games, old games, this is so strange/ Old games, new games, why can't you change?
The MC dances and flirts his way through the "Pop Song" clip. Heems tells FADER via email, "the video was shot in less than an hour with no budget three hours before I had a plane to catch for my insane North America Eat Pray Thug tour. It was shot by my Arab OG Big Rebz of Wildbuck Films, whom I also met through (ex-Diplomats) S.A.S. Eurogang."
Heems also unveiled a new song today: "Coconut Oil (London)," produced by The Last Skeptik. The MC raps brusquely over a bruising beat—I will fucking kill you, it ain't fucking nothing/ Oh you thought I'm soft boy? I ain't fuckin' frontin'—until he gets to the hook, a plea for some TLC: I just want a bad Punjabi girl to put coconut oil in my hair.
