David Bowie May Release His New Album Blackstar In January 2016
Update: The album is scheduled for release on January 8.
The Times Of London (via Pitchfork) is reporting that David Bowie will release a new seven track album called Blackstar on January 8, 2016. He premiered a track of the same name earlier this month as the theme tune from the Sly Atlantic TV series The Last Panthers, and the full ten minute version will be released on November 19.
The record was recorded at New York's Magic Shop studio, and is described in the article as "an album of long, jazzy jams mixed with the kind of driving beat pioneered by Seventies German bands Can and Kraftwerk." A source says the album is "completely bonkers." Judging from the sample above, I'd say that's pretty apt.
Update, 10/26/2015, 1:40 PM:
According to a press release, "only the following [details] can be confirmed" with regards to Bowie's forthcoming material. The new single, "Blackstar," will come out November 20—not November 19, as previously reported. The album will arrive less than two months later, on January 8, 2016.
