Montreal's Kassédo Dancers Bring '90s Dancehall Vibes To The Video For Poirier's "Jump"

I wish I could dance half as well as the women who make up Montreal's Kassédo crew. In the video for Poirier's "Jump," they turn a bright, kanekalon-lined hair salon into a legit bashment, pouring out shots of Haitian rum, taking selfies, and hyping each other up. Over the past few years, producers bridging cities like Kingston, New York, and London have expanded the texture of dancehall, adding and subtracting global influences to make it among the most innovative and adaptable genres anywhere. But on "Jump," which features legendary MC Red Fox, Poirier mines the classic sound that first drove dancehall to dominate dancefloors in the '90s. And Kassédo have all the right moves to complement its rattling bass and Red Fox's throaty flows.

"When I composed 'Jump' with Red Fox I felt that was the perfect tune to bring Kassédo in action," Poirier told The FADER over email. "The same week I was about to reach them for the video, I got an email from them asking me if I had a tune they could dance to for a video. So it was the perfect timing for all of us."

The Montreal producer's Migration LP will be out via UK label Nice Up! on March 4.
