Novelty Daughter Shares Jazz-Influenced Pop Jam “Not Fair”
“A small tantrum against the notion that you are supposed to know know exactly who you are at any given time.”
Novelty Daughter is the project of Brooklyn-based musician Faith Harding, who is releasing the debut full-length Semigoddess March 25 on New York's Stereocure. Novelty Daughter's "Not Fair," the third single off Semigoddess, is a beat and loop-heavy tune that showcases Harding's training in jazz piano and vocals. It's a song about grappling with one's nonlinear, never static identity—fitting, as Harding combines aspects of genres you might not expect to hear together. A jazzy electro pop jam? Damn.
"Like most of the tracks on Semigoddess, 'Not Fair' is about my confusing relationship with myself," Harding told The FADER in an email. "As the title suggests, it's kind of a small tantrum against the notion that this relationship should be secure and fixed, that you are supposed to know know exactly who you are at any given time, when that 'who' is shifting and morphing continuously."
