Rock Above The Abyss To Haybaby’s Growling “Joke/Rope”
It’s the first single from the Brooklyn band’s upcoming EP Blood Harvest, out April 29.
Brooklyn band Haybaby are following up their 2015 debut full length Sleepy Kids with a ravaging new EP they've titled Blood Harvest (out April 29 on Tiny Engines). Today is the day Haybaby share the first single off Blood Harvest, the totally visceral and nearly-terrifying "Joke/Rope."
"Joke/Rope" rocks above an abyss between laughter and total misery. It's "about what you do when you're feeling low—whether you try to find the humor in the situation or wallow in despair," Haybaby told The FADER in an email. I'll get over it/ When I feel like it, rages lead singer Leslie Hong, ostensibly screaming to the world to leave her alone to grapple with her pain. Both the moving on and the wallowing seem equally enticing, but either way the dilemma is wholly consuming: All I can see, she growls, Is the joke or the rope/ That cruel, cruel joke/ And that sweet, tight rope. There's no surface level here; we're deep in the depths of gripping anguish, and Haybaby rock hard enough to carry it.
