President Obama Met With Chance The Rapper, DJ Khaled, And More Today
The president invited a group of artists to the White House to discuss criminal justice reform and the My Brother’s Keeper initiative.
President Obama invited a group of hip-hop and R&B artists that included Nicki Minaj, Alicia Keys, and Ludacris to the White House today in order to discuss criminal justice reform and the My Brother's Keeper initiative, a senior administration official told The FADER.
The artist selected, "have found ways to engage on the issues of criminal justice reform and empowering disadvantaged young people across the country," the official said. Other artists in attendance included Busta Rhymes, Common, Janelle Monae, and Wale.
Alicia Keys is currently spearheading a campaign to urge Congress to pass criminal justice reform laws; Common is a My Brother's Keeper partner, and Chance The Rapper has led a Chicago anti-violence campaign.
The meeting's purpose was to, "highlight the importance of reforming our nation’s criminal justice system and expanding opportunity for all young people including boys and young men of color."
