7 Songs You Need In Your Life This Week
Tracks we love right now. In no particular order.
1. Today, Angel Olsen returned with a semi-mysterious, self-directed video for a shimmering new song. It's, per usual, completely heartbreaking: It doesn't matter who you are or what you've done/ still got to wake up and be someone. Oof.
2. Don't let Jay Z's smart, timeline-baiting verse distract you from what "Drug Dealers Anonymous" actually is: a very good Pusha T song.
3. A Kaytranada remix is always a welcome thing, and his edit of Rihanna's ANTI highlight "Kiss It Better" is no exception. It's — as FADER contributor Deidre Dyer described it — "excellence from one blessed and highly favored West Indian to another."
4. It took less than 24 hours for a newly freed Gucci Mane to release a song. The midtempo, Mike WiLL-produced "First Day Out Tha Feds" sounds both dashed-off and thoughtful — a satisfying return from one of the genre's most resilient auteurs.
5. "Rekr," an intricately produced track from Teengirl Fantasy co-founder Logan Takahashi's debut solo album, oozes forward with equal parts anxiety and euphoria; the song's gooey music video strikes that balance, too.
6. BADBADNOTGOOD's "Confessions Pt. II" features waves of tension, but stays sunny throughout, likely thanks to the upbeat noodling from the indie world's go-to saxophonist, Colin Stetson.
7. Berlin-based digital composer M.E.S.H. has a preternatural way with atmosphere, and "Victim Lord" — the quietly militant, rhythmically perverse closer on his new four-song EP — is solid evidence of that.
