Missy Elliott And Monica Love Chance The Rapper’s #SoGoneChallenge Video
“Here we are in the yr 2016 and a new generation has embraced this song🙏🏾 “
Earlier today, Chance the Rapper shared an endearing freestyle video, dedicated to his girlfriend and newborn daughter, as part of the #SoGoneChallenge on Twitter and Instagram. In the past year, other challenge trends have also taken off, with users borrowing popular instrumentals from years past to showcase their talents. Previous #Challenge trends have included the instrumentals for Young Jeezy and Fabo's "Geeked Up" and Soulja Boy's "Tear It Up". The latest phenomenon is soundtracked by Monica's 2003 hit "So Gone," which was co-written and co-produced by Missy Elliott.
Tonight, the originators of the song responded enthusiastically to Chance's video."This warms my heart to see @chancetherapper spitting 🔥 ova a record I did for my sis @monicabrown in 2003," Missy Elliott wrote on Instagram. "Now here we are in the yr 2016 and a new generation has embraced this song🙏🏾 Monica added that sauce that every girl could relate to & today I saw many guy emcees point of view!"
As Fake Shore Drive's Andrew Barber points out on Twitter, the #SoGoneChallenge has an added Chicago-based caveat. Rapper TeeJay released a Windy City remix to the track, which Barber says was, "all over Chicago radio in '03." Chance also confirmed his love for the TeeJay remix on Twitter, remembering, "I used to skate to this at the rink."
Monica put out a call for others to carry on the #SoGoneChallenge and many talented folks have responded. Watch more #SoGoneChallenge videos below.
