TRACE Mirrors Herself In The Video For Her Passionate Electronic Ballad “Low”
The L.A.-based artist is back with a new single.
TRACE, a Vietnamese-American pop experimenter, is premiering the music video for her new single "Low" today on The FADER. The opening notes glitter like Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time," but TRACE's electronic ballad is far more ambivalent. Over a tide of crescendoing synths, TRACE muses on her efforts to draw blood from the stone of a dying relationship. The track's video is a simple, one-shot performance of TRACE in profile, mirrored back-to-back like Janus, the Roman god of conflicts, beginnings, and endings.
"Sometimes I feel like I'm addicted to disappointment," TRACE told The FADER over email. "It's a new kind of feeling every time and it's strangely exciting. 'Low' is about that feeling: an invitation for something you know is not good enough for you but for some reason, you keep fighting for it—pushing for 'more' out of nothing. It's addicting and it's tiring but it can be fun."
