The Supreme MetroCard Drop Is Causing Long Lines At New York City Subway Stations
The branded MTA cards are already reselling online for over $100.
Supreme inspired a fair share of internet jokes with the announcement of their latest collaborative accessory: a branded, functioning MTA MetroCard. But, apparently, many New York City residents are eager to get their hands on the limited-edition item.
This morning, the NYCT Subway Twitter account announced that the Supreme MetroCards were now vending in certain stations. In their replies, NYCT Subway provided more information: a limited amount of cards were put into machines at the Broadway-Lafayette Street, 125th Street, Queens Plaza, Marcy Ave, Atlantic Ave, Prince Street, Spring Street, and Union Square stations. The odds of getting your hands on a Supreme MetroCard seemed to be a craps shoot, as they were seemingly dispensed at random along with normal cards. Twitter users have reported long lines and delays at select stations.
The Supreme MetroCard, which retailed for $5.50 at the Supreme store and $75 at metro stations, is already being resold on eBay for upwards of $100, amNewYork points out. A store representative told amNY that the cards had sold out.
