The Golden Filter Find Magic In Isolation On Their New Album Still // Alone
Stream the London-via-NYC duo’s second LP now.
Brooding electronic duo The Golden Filter created their second album after relocating from New York to London in 2015. Written on mostly analog instruments and machines from the 1980s in old studio spaces around the U.K., the LP celebrates the feeling of space: it's there in the wide-open melodies, the succint and open-ended lyricism, and the vibrations that ring out between stabs of synth. Moving from an uptempo first half to a darker, harder second, it's a record that looks at loneliness from every angle, and creates a sanctuary for it.
"We’ve been living in London for about two years now and it’s completely changed how we approach music and life," The Golden Filter explained in an email to The FADER. "We’ve never really felt part of any genre or scene before, opting to focus more on freedom on all levels, which has often left us feeling like outcasts. We made [the first] half of this record about our rediscovered affinity for nightclubs, and the second half is a lament about falling out of love with America. We’ve gained a massive understanding of how alone you can actually feel in the world...so scary, and so beautiful."
