Survey Reveals That People Liked Pepsi More After The Kendall Jenner Ad
44% of people had a more favorable view of the soda company after watching.
Despite getting a ton of hate on Twitter, it turns out that people actually liked Kendall Jenner's Pepsi ad. In the ad, Jenner is moved to leave a photoshoot and join a nondescript protest, she then gives a police officer a can of Pepsi before the entire crowd erupts in cheers.
According to a survey of 2,202 people conducted by Morning Consult, 44% of viewers had a more favorable view of Pepsi after watching the ad. About a quarter of viewers had a less favorable view.
The percent of people who liked Pepsi more varied by race. 51% of black people and 75% of Latinx people surveyed said they were more favorable, while only 41% of white people felt that way.
The ad may have swayed viewers on Pepsi, but it did not manage to make many new Kendall Jenner fans. According to the survey only 28% of respondents were more favorable towards the model after viewing the ad.
Despite this data, Pepsi pulled the ad shortly after it premiered following a social media firestorm. Many claimed that Pepsi was co-opting social justice for profit. In response, Pepsi released a statement that read, "Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding. Clearly we missed the mark, and we apologize."
