This Experimental R&B Song Is As Intense As Falling Out Of Love

Kojey Radical joins production duo God Colony and emerging singer Ebi Pamere.

July 05, 2017

U.K. production outfit God Colony have made waves over the past couple years with their fight-talking collaborations with south London MC Flohio and Tennessee rapper Bbymutha. On their latest single "Howling," they've teamed up with spoken word artist and MC Kojey Radical and independent R&B singer Ebi Pamere for a distinctly more introspective track. As Ebi laments, "I wish that I could say that I will always be around," God Colony's adventurous, angular production slowly clamors to a crescendo like anxious thoughts crowding into your mind.

"This is a love song about an old relationship; about two people simultaneously drifting away from each other," God Colony explained to The FADER in an email. "The lyrics in the chorus were actually written long ago. A lot of love songs talk about it from one person's perspective, but this is from both — that feeling where everyone knows when it’s over, and love has turned into something weirder that we don't have a name for. Working with Kojey was a dream, we've never seen a vocalist work like him in the studio, totally unique. In this song is the best metaphor for texting you'll ever hear. See if you can spot it."
