This Psychedelic Ka Baird Video Is The Key To Understanding The Twin Peaks Finale
Just kidding but it’s so good.
Ka Baird, member of the longtime Chicago psych-folk group Spires In The Sunset Rise, is releasing a new solo LP on Drag City on September 22. Today’s video premiere is for the eerie and atmospheric “Oneiric,” a word that means "relating to dreams" and a song featuring Max Eilbacher from NNA Tapes. It's one of the trippier synth clips in recent memory, created and directed by the extremely out-there artist Brenna Murphy out of the morphing noise patterns of the song itself.
What does it have to do with Twin Peaks? The resurgent David Lynch series is currently heading into its final week, at which point we’ll either (1) finally see the two (three?) manifestations of Dale Cooper face off in a sleepy northwest town, or (2) witness a single shot, lasting two hours, of an awakened Audrey Horne uttering, “It was all a dream” — what does this song have to do with that? Nothing on the one hand, because there is no connection at all, as far as I know, but everything on the other.
Because as soon as I hit “Publish” on this post I’ll head out into a rainy New York with “Oneiric” on my headphones. I’m supposed to be going to get lunch but I’ll probably just wander around, hopped up, contemplating, as I imagine Lynch might, the origin of color and the nature of a healthy family structure. Beautiful tune for that.
