Netflix confirms Drake-produced Top Boy will return in 2019
The streaming service will air 10 new episodes of the U.K. show.
Netflix will bring viewers a new season of U.K. gang drama Top Boy in 2019, the streaming giant has confirmed. The new season, which will boast Drake among its producers, will consist of 10 new episodes and will again star Ashley Walters and Kano.
The streaming company stepped in to pick up the show, which originally aired on Britain's Channel 4, after it ended in 2013 after two seasons. Original writer Ronan Bennett is back on board, as too is director Yann Demange.
Top Boy represents Drake's first move into TV and sees him take on an executive producer role alongside his business partner producer Adel “Future” Nur. Drake originally sparked interest in a revival when he shared his love of the show in 2014.
A press release from Netflix offers a brief synopsis of the new season which "picks up as Dushane (Walters) returns from exile to his home in London to reclaim his throne in the highly lucrative drug market. He teams up with Sully (Kane Robinson), his spiritual brother, partner, and sometime rival who is also returning to the same streets after his own form of exile – prison – comes to an end. Awaiting them both is Jamie, the young, hungry and ruthless gang leader whose ambitions leave no place for Dushane and Sully."
The first two seasons of Top Boy are currently available on Netflix.
