Meek Mill reportedly refused to record conversations with his judge for the FBI
Sources told Philly.com that the rapper himself pressed for the short-lived investigation.
One of the most serious allegations against Judge Genece Brinkley, which Meek Mill's lawyers mention in a recent court document requesting her recusal from the rapper's case, is that she was the subject of an FBI investigation surrounding her misconduct in the case. In a new Philly.com report, three sources familiar with the FBI's involvement said that the Philadelphia rapper himself requested the investigation, which ended quickly when Meek Mill allegedly refused to record his conversations with Judge Brinkley.
Law enforcement sources confirmed to Philly.com that the FBI's investigation is no longer active. But Meek Mill's lawyers argue that Judge Brinkley's knowledge of the investigation, even if that awareness came through the rapper's lawyers bringing it up, should be cause for her to be recused. "The existence of a federal investigation involving Judge Brinkley’s conduct regarding Mr. Williams, combined with Judge Brinkley’s awareness of that investigation, raises further doubt as to her ability to preside impartially,” Meek Mill's lawyers wrote in their motion on Monday.
Meek Mill's lawyers have filed two appeals to remove Judge Brinkley from the case. In the past week, both Brinkley and the state superior court have denied Meek Mill's request for an emergency bail hearing.
