Chicago rapper Fredo Santana has died
He was 27.
Fredo Santana, the Chicago rapper who helped usher in drill rap alongside his cousin Chief Keef, died Friday evening from a fatal seizure, according to reports from his family members to TMZ. He was 27. A public statement on his death from his team and family has not yet been released.
TMZ reports that Santana was at his LA home when he was found dead on the floor by his girlfriend around 11:30 p.m. Friday night. Santana was very public with his lean and prescription drug addiction, often writing about them in his music. It's known that drinking lean causes drowsiness, suppressed heart rate and breathing, all of which can easily trigger a seizure.
Santana had been hospitalized for seizures before. In a March 2017 Instagram photo of him in a hospital bed, he wrote: "When u working hard no sleep u get sleep deprived an have a light seizure."
Another incident reportedly happened in October 2017 according to tweets from Santana that say: "Gino found me on da floor shaking bleeding out the mouth having a seizure shit could a been the end." In an additional Instagram post, it was revealed that he was hospitalized for liver and kidney failure, which could have been a result from lean and prescription drug abuse. Following the incident, Santana expressed that he might go to rehab via tweets, which you can see below.
Santana is survived by his 8-month-old son.
