Watch Novelist’s “Dot Dot Dot” video
The Mercury Prize nominee shares the first visual from his debut album.
Later today, September 20, Novelist will attend the 2018 Mercury Prize ceremony in London. He is one of 12 nominees for the annual award given to a single outstanding British album released in the last year. He faces competition from artists including Jorja Smith and King Krule but Novelist Guy is a strong contender. Case in point is Dot Dot Dot, an album highlight and a video for which is premiering above.
The accompanying visual is a stripped back and grimey performance filmed in Manchester, U.K. with Nov spitting bars like "Woke up looked at the news like what, Lies and lies, more lies that's what" in front of graffiti covered walls. It's a stark addition to a song about blocking out negativity and moving to your own beat.
Speaking to The FADER via email, Novelist said: "The inspiration of the video was to provoke thought and listening, the video is quite dark and minimal for this purpose. There is a vignette on the whole video to emulate a thinking or having a vision."
Check out the video above. Novelist Guy is out now.
