Nicole Dollanganger takes a blood oath in her “Lemonade” video

Canadian singer/songwriter Nicole Dollanganger is making her long-awaited return to music with her upcoming album Heart Shaped Bed on October 26. Today, The FADER's got the premiere of the album's first single "Lemonade," an expanded version of a 2015 song. The wedding-themed visuals are directed by Mac Boucher and Dollanganger, with a keen and compelling focus on the word "death" in "till death do us part." Dollanganger's song does a lot of the legwork in building atmosphere as well: the song's protagonist is reclaiming her life from a philandering husband, but there's little joy to found in the vengeful, exquisite ballad.
Dollanganger gave us a peek at the creation of the song and video in an email. "I always thought of 'Lemonade' as an evil song hiding under a soft sound, so I wanted its video counterpart to be something darker, but still through the gaze of the same scorned lovers. We shot in these very delicate and beautiful ruins we’d happened across accidentally, and it was an all around strange experience, but I think something very cool was captured."
