R. Kelly reportedly no longer signed with Sony
The embattled R&B singer has been released from his record contract as sexual abuse allegations mount.
R. Kelly is no longer signed with Sony Music, according to reports in Billboard and Variety. The disollution comes in the wake of Lifetime's Surviving R. Kelly, a docuseries exploring the numerous allegations of sexual and psychological abuse that have been levied against Kelly throughout his career.
This week, reports emerged that Sony had frozen any future release or production of new R. Kelly music until the conclusion of the recently opened criminal investigations in Georgia and Illinois into the allegations against Kelly. The suspension was allegedly a contentious issue between the label and Kelly, who reportedly continues to record.
Kelly has denied all the charges against him through a lawyer. Former collaborators Lady Gaga, Chance The Rapper, and Celene Dion have all pulled their songs with Kelly from streaming services. Last Friday, Kelly's estranged daughter posted a statement of solidarity with Kelly's accusers on Instagram.
Sony/RCA was not immediately available for comment.
