Beyoncé and JAY-Z will receive the Vanguard Award at the 2019 GLAAD Media Awards
The couple will be honored at two ceremonies in the coming weeks.
The 2019 GLAAD Awards will present the Vanguard Award to Beyoncé and JAY-Z, as Pitchfork points out. The honor is given annually to “allies who have made a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people.”
GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis thanked the couple for their efforts in a statement. “Beyoncé and JAY-Z are global icons and passionate defenders of human rights and acceptance for all people. When Beyoncé and JAY-Z speak, the world becomes inspired and when it comes to LGBTQ people, their voices of acceptance have been heard loud and clear.”
The 2019 GLAAD Awards will take place over two ceremonies, on March 28 in Los Angeles and on April 6 in New York City. JAY-Z's mother Gloria Carter received a Special Recognition award at last year's awards for her work on the JAY-Z song "Smile" from his album 4:44.
