“Old Town Road” is on its way to becoming the longest-running #1 single ever
Lil Nas X’s chart titan just won’t leave the top spot.
Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” has stayed atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a 13th week, Billboard reports, meaning that it’s now officially three weeks away from tying for the title of longest-running #1 single ever — and a mere month away from becoming the first song to chart at #1 for 17 weeks.
There are only nine songs to have ruled the Hot 100 chart for longer than “Old Town Road,” with Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber’s “Despacito” and Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” ruling the roost at 16 weeks each. The only significant competition to “Old Town Road” would be Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's “Señorita,” which debuted at #2 this week; but considering “Old Town Road” only dropped around 3% in streaming numbers from last week, it’d take a big bump for Mendes and Cabello to usurp Lil Nas. Come next month and we might have a new chart king on our hands!
