Bad Bunny, Ricky Martin, and more Puerto Rican artists celebrate Ricardo Rosselló’s resignation
The Governor has stepped down amid a scandal involving derogatory text messages sent between himself and senior aides.
Puerto Rican artists including Bad Bunny, Ricky Martin, and Luis Fonsi have celebrated the resignation of Governor Ricardo Rosselló. The Governor quit his position on Wednesday amid rising protests over sexist and homophobic comments he made in text messages to his advisors were made public.
Bad Bunny and Residente were among the leading public voices in the protests against Rosselló. Last week the pair shared “Afilando los Cuchillos,” a song accusing the disgraced politician of corruption and incompetence.
Reacting to the news that he had resigned, Bad Bunny wrote in Spanish: "Let use this strength that we have taken and fight for what is right! Let us keep removing the corrupted that abuse the people and build a better Puerto Rico! To the politicians you are a witness that the times where the people were blinded by your lies and manipulations has passed!!! Your time is running out!! Get to work for the country in an honest and committed way, or else you will feel our strength and fury!!! PUERTO RICO!!! I LOVE YOU!!! I am Mother fucking proud of you!!! Of us!!! I believe in my country! I believe in my generation! The generation of: YO NO ME DEJO!!!
Among those Rosselló had insulted in his private text messages was Ricky Martin. Rosselló and his top aides and Cabinet members were revealed to have joked about the singer's sexuality.
Writing in English on his Instagram, Martin said he was ready to look to the future now. "We won’t let anyone walk all over us again," he wrote. "We will be attentive, vigilant. There’s so much to do now. It is now we need to work more than ever. We succeeded today because we were united. For many decades Puerto Rico was divided. NOT ANY MORE. I am hopeful of our new generation that is instinctively moving things forward. And now, we turn the page."

Elsewhere Daddy Yankee simply wrote: "Today the dignity of a people was enforced. Let god shine on #puertorico on this new road." Luis Fonsi, meanwhile, opted for: "THIS IS HOW WE DO IT DOWN IN PUERTO RICO!!"
