Beyoncé’s Homecoming film snubbed at 2019 Emmys
Beyoncé’s landmark Netflix special failed to win any of the six awards it was nominated for.
Despite being nominated for six Emmy awards, Beyoncé’s 2019 Netflix special Homecoming has failed to take home a single trophy. The film, which focussed on the development of Beyoncé’s landmark 2018 Coachella headlining sets, was nominated for Outstanding Variety Special; Outstanding Costumes For Variety, Non-Fiction or Reality Programming; Outstanding Directing For A Variety Special; Outstanding Music Direction; Outstanding Production Design For A Variety Special; and Outstanding Writing For A Variety Special. As co-director, writer and musical director, Beyoncé herself was nominated for four of the awards.
The film ended up losing to James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke in Best Variety Special; RuPaul’s Drag Race for costuming; Bruce Springsteen’s Springsteen on Broadway for directing; Fosse/Verdon for music directing; Rent for production design; and Hannah Gadsby’s Netflix special Nanette for writing. (Despite the win, Springsteen himself did not complete his EGOT, as he did not direct Springsteen on Broadway.)
Homecoming was released earlier this year, and was accompanied by a 40-song live album featuring a new cover of “Before I Let Go.”
