Prosecutors accuse R. Kelly of bribing officials in order to marry Aaliyah

The New York Times is reporting that federal prosecutors are accusing R. Kelly of bribery in relation to his 1994 marriage to 15-year-old Aaliyah when he was 27. The Times’ report suggests that Kelly bribed a government to assist him in obtaining an ID that said Aaliyah was an 18-year-old.

This charge of bribery is adding to Kelly’s already significant currently-open indictments, the most recent of which was a racketeering indictment filed against him that also includes allegations of possession of child pornography and more. Read about R. Kelly’s ongoing legal issues here.
