British post-punks Do Nothing share their slyly menacing “LeBron James” video
Watch the new video from the rising Nottingham-based band.
Do Nothing's Chris Bailey yells his vocals down the phone as a bearded man with trouble in his eyes slowly inflates a big yellow balloon inside a Nottingham working man's club. This is a sample scene of the U.K. band's "LeBron James" video, which depicts a world the Lakers player could barely imagine.
Like a Ben Wheatley movie in miniature, the bleakly British video mixes the mundane with a sense of uneasy peril. It acts as the ideal backdrop to the post-punk band's Fall-esque ode to the scammers and conmen of the world. Bailey, who carries the same self-aware swagger as Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner, sings about dividing up "a big old slice of nothing" from behind the ale pumps while that balloon gets bigger and bigger.
Speaking about the video via email, Bailey explained: “We always like our videos to feature people or places local to us so they have a weird familiarity. We hired out an old social club near where we all live and cast a load of friends and their parents to play these funny sinister roles.”
Do Nothing play London's The Lexington on April 21. Check out the "LeBron James" video above.
