Rihanna will receive the President’s Award at the 51st NAACP Image Awards
The ceremony will be aired on February 22 at 8 p.m. on BET.
Rihanna will be honored at the 51st NAACP Image Awards with the President's Award, Pitchfork reports. The award recognizes "special achievement and distinguished public service," and was presented last year to JAY-Z.
NAACP President Derrick Johnson will present Rihanna with the award at the ceremony, which will air Saturday, February 22 at 8 p.m. on BET. In a statement, Johnson lauded Rihanna's career outside of entertainment:
"From her business achievements through Fenty to her tremendous record as an activist and philanthropist, Rihanna epitomizes the type of character, grace, and devotion to justice that we seek to highlight in our President’s Award.”
Everything is fairly quiet for Rihanna on the music front — her last album Anti was released in 2016, and work continues on the follow-up — but she has sold a documentary to Amazon for a reported $25 million, shared a magazine called Rihannazine, and a book called Rihanna.
