Grimes shares new song “Delete Forever”
The song, written about the opioid crisis, is the latest to be taken from Miss Anthropocene, due on February 21.
With all the news about Grimes's recent announcement that she is pregnant, it was easy to forget that she also has new music on the way. Her long-awaited album Miss Anthropocene is due on February 21, and today brings the arrival of new song "Delete Forever." You can stream the folkily melodic new tune below.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1 about the song, Grimes said "Delete Forever" is about the opioid crisis and was written on the night Lil Peep died in 2017.
“It's a pretty bummer song," she told Lowe. "I've had, like, quite a few friends actually, like, pass away. In particular one friend when I was 18 passed away from complications related to opioid addiction. It's just like, you know, artists keep dying and stuff so, I wrote this song on the night Lil Peep died cos I just got super triggered by that.”
"When I was making this song I was trying to be more like Patsy Cline or something, like I was trying to be country or something," she continued. "But I feel like it ends up having this sort of like 'Wonderwall' kind of vibe or something. I feel like there's a reason that song is so popular. That song does rule."
"Delete Forever" is the latest song to be lifted from Miss Anthropocene after "My Name Is Dark," "So Heavy,” and “Violence,” .
Grimes also recently shared “4ÆM," a song taken from the soundtrack to Cyberpunk 2077, the highly-anticipated video game coming later this year from developers CD Projekt Red. In addition to providing music for the soundtrack, Grimes will also voice in-game character Lizzy Wizzy.
