Panama-born, Atlanta-based artist Nino Augustine shared the video for his latest single "Miéntete" on Friday, an Afrobeats-tinged love song that's as bouncy as it is sweet. From a brightly-lit aquarium to an equally neon trap house, the video doesn't immediately sound like your everyday love story but somehow it works.
"The concept came from thinking through emotional unavailability in dating and imaging a surreal concept to explain that," said one of the video's directors Nilo Tabrizy, who helmed the clip alongside filmmaker Mae Ryan. "I knew we had to have ladies running a trap house and it felt important to flip the idea of men dominating the world on its head."
For Augustine, the song's production tells an important story about his Afro-Latino heritage. "With the song, I tapped into my African roots and really enjoyed blending my Latino and African influences on this song," he explained. "It shows Black love front and center, we don’t see that too often. Having that as our main story is important to me. "
