Watch the video for Nylo’s slinky new single “History of Sorry”
Her first song since 2019’s “NEED U.”
Chicago R&B-pop singer Nylo has been collaborating with some of the biggest names in music over the past seven years, featuring on albums by ZHU, G-Eazy, and Mac Miller, among many others. Now, after a lengthy hiatus brought on by two successive hard drive failures and a break to focus on her mental health, she's back with a slinky new single in "History of Sorry" and an accompanying video, premiering at the top of the page.
"As a relationship ages, the two words “I’m sorry” define it more than the alternate, more famous, three," Nylo wrote in an email to The FADER. "There is a Japanese pottery art called Kintsugi, where the broken pieces are the most valuable, because the Japanese in all their surreal wisdom, fill the broken pieces with a gold-based lacquer. This way, the more broken a piece, the more gold it possesses, and the more valuable it becomes. When I read about Kintsugi, I was as broken as can be, and the idea that a place existed for the broken things and people to be upheld as prized and valued, was a rebirth.
“History of Sorry” is a journey through a long-term love and all the hurt that it entails, but it’s more specifically about how if you make it any distance to look back on, it's that very same long road that has the greatest view."
