Joeboy shares dance-filled video for “Lonely”
The track is the first single from the Nigerian star’s upcoming album.
Nigerian star Joeboy shared the first visuals for his latest single "Lonely" on Thursday. The single serves as the first track from his upcoming debut album, slated to drop next year.
The song, an ode to taking your chances on love, is one the singer said is the "most vivid" from his upcoming project. "It tells the story of a guy and a girl he’s attracted to but too scared to walk up to," he explained. "Then one night, he’s half past tipsy and becomes confident enough to reach out to her. Turns out she’s felt the same way about him the whole time."
This clip finds a pair of Montreal-based dancers, Hawa Keita and Loïc Reyel, letting the story play out through movement. "They are respectively from Senegal and Cameroon," Joebboy said. "It was a great way to start the album and it’s always great to collaborate with people from around the world."
With the full album release still some months away, the singer is already reflective about the larger story he wants it to tell. "Happiness in my opinion is looking into your lover’s eyes, a child’s smile, laughter, the memory of the first kiss, marriage to the one you love, reuniting with a family member, being grateful for the simple little things," he explained. "Basically, it’s those special moments. And the epitome of happiness, as I’ve come to realize, is love, which is the theme of this project."
