H.E.R., Sia, and Trent Reznor lead 2021 Golden Globes nominations
The show takes place on February 28.
The Hollywood Foreign Press has announced the nominations for the 2021 Golden Globe Awards. Sure, the nominations for the factory-farmed whiteness of Emily In Paris over I May Destroy You feels almost too on the nose, but there are other selections (and omissions) worth arguing about.
H.E.R. has been nominated in the Best Original Song category for “Fight For You,” taken from the highly anticipated Fred Hampton biopic Judas And The Black Messiah. She'll be up against English soul singer Celeste (who just released a fine album last week) for “Hear My Voice” from Aaron Sorkin's The Trial of the Chicago 7. Other nominees include Raphael Saadiq and Andra Day for "Tigress & Tweed" from The United States vs. Billie Holiday (Day, who played Holiday, is nominated for the Best Actress in a Motion Picture), Leslie Odom Jr. for "Speak Now" from One Night In Miami (Like Day, Odom is also up for a Best Supporting Actor In a Motion Picture Award for his role as Sam Cooke), and Laura Pausini's "Io Si (Seen)" from The Life Ahead.
For Best Original Score, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross were picked for Disney/Pixar's Soul as well as David Fincher's Netflix film Mank (Jon Batiste joins them for the Soul nomination). Ludwig Göransson got a nod for his extremely intense Tenet score, as did Alexandre Desplat (for The Midnight Sky) and James Newton Howard (News Of The World).
Other notable nominations include Sia's musical Music for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Riz Ahmed's Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama nod for Sound of Metal. Find the full list of nominations here and argue amongst yourselves.
