Tonstartssbandht return with “What Has Happened,” announce new album
The experimental rock duo’s new project Petunia is out on October 22.
Tahn-starts-bandit. Even down to the skip-song rhythm of the band name, Tonstartssbandht have never had trouble finding their own beat and marching to it. 18 albums in, the brother duo of Edwin and Andy White has traversed genres with rugged, psychedelic style and impressive consistency. On October 22, Tonstartssbandht will return with their 19th album Petunia, out via Mexican Summer, and today The FADER is premiering the music video lead single "What Has Happened."
Fans of the last Tonstartssbandht album Sorcerer will find a lot to love in the new song, a shimmering and melancholic composition where guitar lines undulate across gently groovy drums and vocals as fluffy and heavy as storm clouds. "This tune is about time traveling at home when you're blue," the band said in a statement. "Home is where you will find pain, joy, and everything in between. Orlando is our home."
In the music video, the White brothers go on an 8mm-filmed walk/skate through picturesque Florida landscapes. "We shot a couple hundred feet of Super 8 in the hot Orlando sun," director Case Mahan said. "That nocturnal bird that showed up midday gave us permission to film a heavy subject on a beautiful afternoon. Not premeditated, everything seemed to fall into place much like the band’s performances that are sometimes seemingly improvised."
