Beyoncé nominated for first Academy Award
She’ll compete with Billie Eilish and more in the Best Original Song category at next month’s ceremony.
Beyoncé has picked up her first ever Academy Award nomination today, with “Be Alive” from King Richard up for Best Original Song at this year’s Oscars. She is nominated alongside songs by Billie Eilish (No Time To Die), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Encanto), Diane Warren (Four Good Days), and Van Morrison (Belfast). The 2022 ceremony takes place on March 27 at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre.
“Be Alive” is Beyoncé’s contribution to the biopic of Serena and Venus Williams's father, Richard. Will Smith is nominated for Best Actor for his role as Richard Williams. Eilish’s “No Time to Die” took home the Golden Globe for Best Original Song earlier this year.
Elsewhere in the nominations, Questlove's Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) is up for Best Documentary while Licorice Pizza, Dune, The Power of the Dog, Don’t Look Up, Drive My Car, King Richard, and West Side Story will compete for Best Picture.
