Back in 2017, New Zealand's Amelia Murray released Morningside, her debut album as Fazerdaze. It was a strong full-length opening statement for the indie pop artist, but she wasn't able to quickly follow through: creative burnout, as well as personal and professional struggles, forced Murray to retreat from the music industry. Happily, she's back today with "Come Apart," her first new song in five years.

Whereas the music on Morningside was mostly gentle dream-pop, "Come Apart" is a grungier monster, all lashed steel string acoustic and righteous – if simmering – anger. Strings of Liz Phair and Weezer energize Fazerdaze's realization that the tether binding her to someone is far more frayed than she realized. It's a new era for Fazerdaze, and she hasn't lost any of the considerable songwriting prowess that made her stand out half a decade ago. Hear the song in its music video below.

“‘Come Apart’ is an angsty surrender to growing apart from people in my life," Fazerdaze says in a press statement. "I wrote this at a time when I wasn't accepting that some of my closest relationships were just not working. I was contorting myself to fit others, doing everything I could to keep the relationships going instead of allowing them to be what they were; ending, done. I believe this song was a way for my subconscious to shout at me to surrender and to allow things in my life to come to an end.”
