J Hus, Jockstrap, and Shygirl lead 2023 Mercury Prize nominees
Arctic Monkeys, Fred Again.. and more are also on the 12-album shortlist for this year’s award.
The list of nominees for the 2023 Mercury Prize has been revealed with Shygirl, Arctic Monkeys, Jockstrap, J Hus, and Fred Again.. set to compete for this year's title. The annual prize rewards one outstanding British album. Last year's prize was won by Little Simz for her album, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert.
Other nominated albums on this year's list include efforts from jazz outfit Ezra Collective, pop star RAYE, Irish folk rock band Lankum, rapper Loyle Carner, soul vocalist Olivia Dean, and Scottish trio Young Fathers.
See below for a full rundown of the nominated albums. The overall winner of the 2023 Mercury Prize will be announced on September 7 at a London ceremony. The winner is decided by the judging panel on the day of the prizegiving.
