Peso Pluma will no longer be performing in Tijuana, his label has confirmed. The decision to axe the gig follows a message from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel warning the Mexican artist that were he to appear in the city it would be his "last" performance.

A statement from Peso Pluma’s labels Double P Records and Prajin Music Group, shared on Instagram, reads: "Our goal is to protect the fans and the team. For the safety of everyone involved, we will cancel our show in Tijuana. Thank you so much to all our fans for understanding. We love you.”

Last week the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) Cartel hung four banners on bridges across Tijuana warning the corridos tumbados superstar from appearing in their city as planned on October 14. “It will be your last performance because of your disrespectful loose tongue,” they read in Spanish. "you show up and we are going to (break you)." It is thought the threats likely relate to some of Peso Pluma's lyrics, which show solidarity with a rival cartel.

One arrest has been made in connection with the banners while municipal president of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero Ramírez said he would have potentially intervened if Peso Pluma had tried to perform regardless.

Earlier this week it was announced that Peso Pluma is nominated for two awards at this year's Latin Grammys. He joins fellow nominees Shakira, Rosalía, Bad Bunny, and Karol G. The ceremony will take place in Sevilla, Spain on November 16.
