Yaya Bey shares two new songs
Hear “crying through my teeth” and “the evidence,” the experimental R&B artist’s first new music since her March EP Exodus the North Star.
Brooklyn-based R&B auteur Yaya Bey has shared two new songs, “crying through my teeth” and “the evidence.” Keen-eared listeners may remember “crying” from Bey’s COLORS August studio show; along with “the evidence,” it’s the first taste of a new album from Bey arriving in 2024.
Scroll down to stream both songs alongside a music video for “the evidence.” The video focuses on different generations of Black woman and the minutiae of their daily lives, balancing both portraiture and dreamlike dance sequences. Bey co-directs with Chassidy David, as well as co-choreographing with Alexandria Johnson.
“I wrote ‘the evidence’ last winter when I was experiencing grief in the most challenging way I ever had before and I needed to encourage myself,” Bey says of the song in a press statement.
The new songs follow Bey’s Exodus the North Star EP, released in March.
