Solange offers an update on her next album

Solange is the subject of a new Vogue cover feature and has given the publication and insight into her musical plans for the new year. The good news? She's marked 2025 as a year for songwriting.

Speaking to Vogue Australia, Solange talked about the new artists she is listening to (she's a fan of SahBabii and Laila) as well as shouting out French composer Philippe Athuis.

Talk, naturally, moved on to her own music. Speaking about the status of her next album, Solange said: "Honestly, I never stop making music. I’ve never stopped, and I’ll probably dedicate myself to it full time next year. Over the past five years, I’ve focused on creating works that I hope will inspire and occupy a space-time far beyond my own existence. I’m preparing spiritually, physically, artistically, and mentally for my future self at 60 or 70."

She went on to explain that she is "incredibly grateful for everything I’ve accomplished," and outlined the fact that she has "built a library, created objects, published books, made sculptures, composed ballet music, and created a performance program" since the release of her last album, while hinting at what's to come. "It’s been a very rich time, but I must say I picked up the drums again a few weeks ago, and I feel like music is meant to capture the spirit. It freezes it in time like no other art form."

Solange’s most recent album was 2019’s When I Get Home. Last year, she curated BAM’s spring performance series. More recently she spoke about writing music for the tuba, and wrestling with whether to release it or not.
