Spellling announces new album Portrait of My Heart

Chrystia Cabral a.k.a. Spellling, a songwriter known for epic and avant-garde take on pop music, has announced a new album called Portrait of My Heart. Out March 28 via Sacred Bones, the album follows 2021's excellent The Turning Wheel (that project was revisited in 2023 for newly orchestrated versions on Spellling & the Mystery School).

The title track from Portrait of My Heart, out today, soars on the back of an angsty acoustic guitar melody to operatic heights — at first listen, it seems as though Cabral has come close to creating her own, personal new wave of emo. “When the lyrics for the title track came together," Cabral says in a press statement, "it really started to morph everything in this more energetic direction, instead of this more whimsical landscape that I’ve worked with before. It started to become more driven, higher energy, more focused.”
