Holy Our-Mom's-House-in-1982! The collabo between Nite Jewel and Dam-Funk sounds like a goth Patrice Rushen art directed by a 2012 replicant of Rick James. Or like, Ashford and Simpson over Slave's keyb section. Except Nite Jewel wants to know how she's gonna ditch the "creeps" at whatever discotheque/neon-lit street of Hollywood where she's lamping, and Dam-Funk is as usual transmitting his melodies from Mars via satellite. And even though the song's about feeling uncomfortable and sorta despondent, this is some straight lover's funk. Also for some random reason it makes us want to go home and watch After Hours again. Maybe because it's just as off-kilter and mysterious. If these guys drop a whole album as an extension of their XLR8R video, we predict a baby boom nine months later. Can you two also holler at some DeBarges and make it official? Chico is waiting for your call.
