Every week a different FADER staff member will pick a clothing item or accessory that he or she has lately been spending a lot of time with—or would like to—and write a little love letter to it. We would’ve done a column on who we’re dating but that seemed a little bit much. This week Mobolaji Dawodu writes about the Timberland Boot Company Counterpane Oxfords.
I went to high school in the suburbs, a place where Timberlands were one of two things: there was the preppy style moccasins (which I bought discounted at Marshalls!), or the thugged-out work boots. I personally always felt like there was no in-between. Then, a couple of years ago Timberland came out with a line called Timberland Boot Company. I saw them, but really didn’t take notice. I recently came upon a pair from this new collection, and now I might just be a Timberland brand loyalist! This collection to me is the epitome of a brand’s evolution. I must say I get a kick out of the reaction on people’s faces when they inquire about the make of my kicks. Timberlands?! These oxfords are casual, but also dressy enough to throw on with a suit and tie! And to top it off I feel like and could probably run the New York marathon in these, 'cause they are ridiculously comfortable. I guess what I am basically trying to relay is that I am really happy with my new shoes, and I want to share it to the world so much so that my shoes are actually one size too big. I just couldn’t take them off to exchange them!
