Every week a different FADER staff member will pick a clothing item or accessory that he or she has lately been spending a lot of time with—or would like to—and write a little love letter to it. We would’ve done a column on who we’re dating but that seemed a little bit much. This week Maia Stern writes about the Blood is the New Black Storm Coming tee.
You know how when it's scorching hot outside in the summertime and you wish it would snow just for a minute to cool you down? Or when it's nose-nipping cold outside and all you want to do is bake in the sun until you're light golden brown? Well, how come no-one ever wishes upon a storm? It's unusual for someone to hit the beach and say "I'm just so hot at the beach right now, I'm just melting on all this sand and all I want is to look up and see a dark, black sky with hints of nimbus clouds and heavy rain approaching." I mean, we just don't want that, right? But that doesn't mean we don't want that printed on a shirt for all to see!
This Blood Is The New Black women's boyfriend shirt by Dan Monick fills that void perfectly. The stormy print suggests there is nothing wrong with the idea of an advancing storm, a far cry from the general distaste one may feel for an actual storm warning. It's a feeling not unlike the one ol' Magritte conveys with his moody, bluish-grey colors and tones. This style gets its "boyfriend" moniker from its larger-than-most neckline and sexyish slit on the back. Ladies, we've come a long way from the Baby tee—keeping it loose is the way to go and definitely the most comfortable. This shirt also comes in a regular cut for all you actual boyfriends out there. Perhaps the more people who can recreate a storm, the higher the chances we can prevent future ones, no?
