Matmos once made an album based around samples from audio recordings of plastic surgery. It was gross. It was also catchy. They've an ear for percussive pleasantries, which makes them a perfect pairing for So Percussion, quartet of new music players. Coming from Yale, they are nerdy enough to play Steve Reich and Terry Riley at orchestra halls, but cool (depending on how you define "cool") enough to venture into a more minimal, rhythmic territory, like this detailed, bejeweled and then fuzzed-out burst of energy. The two groups have a duo album out soon.
