The blog I am a Laser points out that before Bay Area producer NastyNasty discovered dubstep, "he was under the impression that he was making bass heavy southern rap beats." In a time when every third dude is attempting dubstep's wobble to varying results, this is refreshing to hear, particularly since "Junkie" is such an exceptional track. (It's also a nice way to point out that dubstep and Dirty South production are psychic kin.) Sneaking in a vocal sample from Justin Timberlake's "LoveStoned," NastyNasty's got nimble beat fingers and doesn't rest on his oscillating subbass laurels as so many are wont to do. He's more about emotional resonance on this one, and his tom crashes and chord progressions are simultaneously sexy and mean. Bravo, dude. NastyNasty's EP, entitled PukePaint (sigh), comes out September 14 on Frite Nite.
